8.3.1.1 5003az x64 "All files up to date" on screen message

This will be no help at all in diagnosis, but the message just turned up when nothing was happening.

X1 was minimised. I haven't used it today, but there it was. The message suddenly popped up:

X1 Search all connectors paused

Woke up X1. Told it to Resume all. Old message persists.

Had to shut down and restart X1 to lose the message.

Hello,

In the "saved searches" folder, can you find one of the files that correspond to the broken searches,
they are xml text files with extension .x1s, and check what are the values for the Width properties for
the columns. I guess those values have gotten out of hand ...

I dont know what was reason, my question is if it exist there some possibility to set default size, otherwise to make some default settings.
I have tried remove all columns and select them again, columns stayed in huge size...

It depends on where you have told X1 to put your index.

Open X1:
  • Options
  • Index
  • Look at Store index files in the following location
  • Copy the path
  • Paste into Windows Explorer
  • Look for Saved Searches folder

Can somebody point me to the saved searches folder?

Happy X1 user since 2004! (happier with to older GUI, more stable and better looking IMHO)

Also, this may be available on the support pages, but how many devices can I install it on?

I am a home user, and would like to install it on both my main laptop and my Homegroup desktop server.

Thanks for the reply.

Is the trial period for 14 days of actual use, or 14 calendar days from installation? I'd like to check it out but want to make sure I can adequately do that before the period expires?

Thanks,

Hi there,

The license for X1 Search 8 is perpetual, so you will always be able to install/reinstall the versions available to you up to the point of your support/upgrade term. If you elect not to renew support after a year, you will lose access to premium support and you will no longer be guaranteed access to newer versions of X1 Search.

X1 will continue to phone home, as this is how we check the most recent versionof the product that your license allows you to have.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks!

The "hard wired" searches are fixed. But you can easily create your own saved search based on the existing search. Just go to the column you want to tweak, add WPD and Save as something new.

However, I am not sure that this is what you want. Here at least, the Documents search does include WPD. Have you checked that X1 is set to index these files?

The relevant Type column here shows the following:

doc= OR docx= OR xls= OR xlsx= OR ppt= OR pptx= OR vsd= OR pdf= OR odt= OR sxw= OR ods= OR sxc= OR odp= OR sxi= OR xlsm= OR wpd=

Document type is something else.

Which search are you using and what columns does it have?

Is there a way to change Document Type column default.
The default list does not include wpd documents. Each search I must add OR wpd= to Document Type column.

Cannot add Outlook PST file

bmclachlan - I would second Kenward's advice and move the PST from the dropbox folder to another local folder location on your disk. Then, as a reminder, ther are two ways to pull a PST into the index:

- Either mount the PST into your Outlook so it is visible as a part of your "folder view" which should make it visible to X1 automatically.

- Or manually browse to the PST location from the X1 interface.

Question for you.. What version of Outlook do you have? What version of X1 are you using?

Yes. If Outlook is properly configured, then you should not have to do anything to tell X1 to use it. You will see that it is there when you "Manage data sources".

Why would you want to put the PST file in a Dropbox folder? These are strange locations that Windows probably treats differently. It is, after all, the local mirror of an on-line (cloud) repository.

If Windows and Office are working just fine with this arrangement, then X1 shouldn't need any intervention on your part.

If that does not work, then I would tell Outlook to put its Mail Profile in a more conventional location.

This is the confusing situation as everything looks fine when I examine my Outlook profile) yes I am using Outlook and only have one profile). But I still get this error every single time.

Is it possible that X1 already is aware of this profile and does not require that I try to add a profile? If that is the case then the error message would be more appropriate "… That profile is already being used…".

bmclachlan wrote:Could someone please translate the meaning of "your default Outlook profile". Thanks.

This is what it says, your default Mail profile in Outlook.

Outlook requires a default Mail Profile that holds details of your email accounts and the location of your mail database. (A PST file if you are not using Exchange.) You can inspect your local Profiles in the Mail section of Windows Control Panel

X1 detects this profile and uses it as the basis of its own activities.

If you don't have Outlook installed, you are probably out of luck when trying to index PSTs. But if you have a bunch of PSTs that are not attached to a Profile, then you can add them "manually" in X1 or you can do what I do which is to create a "dummy" profile that has no email accounts related to it but that acts as a "wrapper" for any number of PST files. X1 then detects this Profile and makes the PST files accessible for you to select which bits to index.

You can use the Mail bits of control panel to do other useful things, like telling Outlook to put your PST files where you want them, rather than where some dunderhead at Microsoft thinks they should be.
