I find that it fades into the background if I do anything. But its ghostly presence persists.

X1 Search Index is up-to-date button
All,
Thanks for reporting this. We're looking into the issue to see if we can determine in what cases the X1 Notifcation Icon mouseover message appears in an unexpected location.
Can you please note whether you have made any changes to the Notification icon settings for X1? (i.e. Show Icon and Notifications, Hide Icon and Notifications, Show Only Notifications)
This is accessed by right-clicking the Windows taskbar notification area and choosing 'Customize notification icons'
Also, please note what version of Windows you are running (if not already provided here in the thread).
Thanks!

Recoverable Items/Deletions folder
That makes a difference.
Wrong version of Outlook – but I should have spotted the original reference to 2013 – different environment.
Always helps to have correct and complete information when troubleshooting.
I still suspect changes in how Outlook works. I keep finding quirks in 2013.

X1 Search Index is up-to-date button
Just to say "me too".
"X1 search index is up-to-date" appears in upper left hand corner of screen, seemingly at random, and it stays there. Can be removed only by closing and restarting X1. Very irritating.
I'm running X1 Search 8.3.2.1 build 5003eb (64 bit) on Windows 8.1, but the unwanted message has been appearing for the last couple of weeks or more, so on at least one previous build of X1.

I can pull the window up enough to see the buttons but they snap back out of sight again. I can go through full reinstall but would prefer the easier option.???

Hi,
can you try to install on a Windows 7 machine?
Windows Server, especially old versions, are not officially supported.

I start X1 minimized when starting windows. Several times I have noticed that the "X1 search index is up-to-date" appears when I clicked the X1 systray icon to open X1. Can someone confirm this?

X1 Freezing
Hi,
I had hit "pause all" because I had introduced the exchange data file and it started to index that too. I didn't want a duplicate index. Anyways, I relaunched X1 later in the day and I was able to get "resume index" to work but then it wouldn't sync the .ost exchange file I had created, automatically. I couldn't find a way to get it to locate the file and sync it. It just wanted to locate .pst files. So I finally punted and uninstalled/reinstalled X1. That fixed the problem.

X1 Freezing
X1 is freezing on me. I had moved to an Outlook Exchange connection and deleted my old IMAP profile. I needed to delete the data source and restart a sync from scratch. Here were the steps I took:
1. Paused all connections by pressing button in lower right corner
2. Clicked on manage data sources for Outlook Email
3. Tried to modify/edit the Outlook email source
4. X1 Locked up.
5. Killed the X1 process and re-entered X1
6. Deleted all data sources in Manage Data Sources Window
7. Tried to reinstate my previous data sources (calendar, notes, email, files, etc.) and every time I click on any of the icons, X1 freezes
8. X1 continues to say "all connections paused"
I am stuck...I have the latest X1 patch. OS is Windows Surface Pro 3 with 8.1 Pro
Any ideas what to do next?

X1 Freezing
Hi jyastic,
There could be a number of things that could lead to this behavior. How long did you wait to see if X1 may eventually recover?
My first thought would be a problem with your Outlook profile, as that's what we're reaching first when you access the Outlook edit screen. Second would be an issue with one or more folders in your profile.
I recommend opening a support ticket if you have yet to do so, so we can investigate further.

Me too. X1 keeps moving the path. Most confusing.

This fixed the bug! Thanks for providing a solution quickly. The new install path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\X1 Beta\X1 Search\X1.exe" and not "C:\Program Files\X1 Search\X1.exe' anymore... confused me at first.

All,
We've just released the fix for this issue. You can upgrade to 8.3.2.1 via Menu > Help > Check for Updates.
This fix does not require a re-index.
You can also initiate an upgrade by running the installer again, here:
http://download.x1.com/downloads/pro/X1SearchSetup.exe
Thanks for your patience while we worked to fix this!

Outlook preview is not available
All,
We have identified the cause for this issue. It appears to be a bug with the "Store Outlook Email Body in the Index". If this option is enabled, preview will fail.
We are working on a fix and will push out an update as soon as possible.
We don't believe a fix will require reindex so we recommend not deleting your index or reinstalling, and instead wait for the new version if possible.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

OK I have solved the problem. But only by completely uninstalling X1 Search including deleting the index and removing all settings, rebooting and re-installing v8.3.2.
This is slightly irritating being as I now have to rebuild all ms settings and all my bookmarks. And I now have to wait while it rebuilds the index from scratch.
