X1 Supported Platforms Guide
X1 goes out of its way to explicitly test our products with a number of third-party products. Our goal is to test and validate that our products work with those products our customers and partners use most frequently. Just because a particular version of the third-party software is not listed on the supported platforms guide does not mean that the product will not work with X1, just that we do not explicitly test that version of the application.

Unsupported Products/Known Issues:
•Downgrading from 6.7 to 6.2.4 or earlier release requires uninstall without saving index/settings.
•Deployment Manager builds do not support push-to-client searches created in the X1 Enterprise Server.
•Multi-row saved searches are no longer supported starting in version 6.5 and above.
•Delete key does not work in the deskbar (use the backspace key instead).
•Add to Zip PSA does not preserve the relative folder path of the source files.
Windows 7 and Vista
•X1 will ignore registry parameters passed from Windows 7 or Vista searches for variables such as My Computer, Recycling Bin, Network Locations, Desktop.
•The F3 command in Windows 7 or Vista does not send a query to the default search engine if the cursor is placed in the Windows Explorer search box.
•Files RTI is not compatible with Windows 7 or Vista junction points.
Microsoft Email
•Outlook 2010 - X1 does not currently support indexing the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010
•X1 does not automatically detect Outlook mail profile default changes while running. X1 needs to be restarted to establish a connection to the new Outlook email profile.
•Performing a "Copy to Folder" PSA on items in a folder with an auto-forward rule causes the rule to be applied again on the items selected.
•Outlook Express - When using X1 to open, forward, or reply to Outlook Express email messages with attachments, the new email message will not contain the attachments.
Lotus Notes
•X1 does not support indexing multiple copies of the same Lotus Notes replica database.
•X1 will not index Lotus Notes email that only appear in the "All Documents" view.
Other Email
•IMAP Email Servers - X1 does not support indexing of email messages when using IMAP mailboxes. X1 recommends always storing copies of email messages in a local PST file.
•X1 must be closed when Symantec Offline Vault is updated.
Other Applications
•PDF - Preview of PDF documents with the hidden text property turned on does not preview results.
•Norton 360 on-access firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection may cause X1 startup problems which result in "Remote Procedure Call Failed".
•Access - Unable to preview Access Database Formats beyond Version 2.0 or indexing any Access Database formats.
Internationalization
•A change in locale/regional settings requires the user to rename profile names/PST file paths and re-build the X1 index.
•X1 only supports PST paths and MAPI profiles that contain characters that map to the locale/regional settings.
•X1 does not support double byte characters in passwords, the installation path or data directory paths.
•X1 does not support double byte or accented characters for the Mozilla Thunderbird and Outlook Express mail clients.
•The "Add to Zip" post search action executes only on items with titles/columns with latin-1 UTF characters.
•X1 search highlighting for files has been turned off for queries that contain CJK characters.
•X1 does not support drag & drop of an email with CJK characters in the subject field for Outlook 2000.

Upgrade Considerations:
The following settings will not be preserved upon an upgrade from the X1 Client 5.6.4 or lower:
•Changes to the actions toolbar.
•The "Load X1 at Startup" setting.

Windows 7 and Vista User Access Control (UAC) Considerations:
•The following actions require administrator authentication:
•The ability to install X1.
•Registering the product for all users.
•Setting shortcut settings for all users.
•Adding/removing plugins.
•For these actions, an authentication dialog will prompt for a username and password with administrator privileges.

Default Mail Client / Won't Index Outlook 2013

Update (4/7/15 7pm EST): I deleted the Data Sources associated with Outlook and made it worse. Now all my past emails have been deleted from the index. I tried to add the Outlook data sources back and I get the same message. As far as I can tell, I have made this mail client the default. What else can I check?

Thanks,

Pete

--------------------------------
I just upgraded to Office 2013, including Outlook. When launching X1, I received this message:

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

I have gone into the Control Panel and made Outlook the default but I am still getting the error message. (Also rebooted).

X1 Search 8.3.2.1 build 5003b 64-bit.

Any help?

thanks,

Pete

I thought I was on the right track when I googled the error message, but it turns out that the problem normally occurs when one app is 64-bit and the other is 32-bit. In this case, as far as I can tell, both apps are 64-bit. Is there another piece of the X1 architecture that is 32-bit that interacts with Outlook 2013?

I don't think that clashing "bitness" is an issue these days. At one stage X1 and Outlook had to be the same. When you installed X1 it checked the bitness of Outlook and installed accordingly. More recently, X1 just goes with the flow and installs the version to match your operating system.

X1 can then eat 32-bit and 64-bit Outlook. But Microsoft generally seems to prefer the 32-bit version when installing.

Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office

This is mostly because the 64-bit version breaks all manner of Outlook and Office add ins. It does this in return for benefits that are irrelevant to 99.999% of users, like the ability to handle spreadsheets big enough to model the global economy. It is some time since I installed Office 365, but my memory is that you have to force it to install the 64-bit version of Office. I have 32-bit Outlook.

In your case, I assume that Outlook is behaving as it should in all circumstances apart from playing nicely with X1.

If I look at the Add-Ins in Outlook, I see that it warns that the X1 Outlook RTI Addin "caused Outlook to start slowly", with a delay of 0.656 seconds. It then offers to Disable this add-in.

Preview is not working for me, either. C'mon x1 people, please fix this problem. x1 worked fine in the prior builds and now it doesn't. It's worthless like this. The preview pane shows the contents of one e-mail in the list of search hits but when you select another e-mail on the list, the preview pane doesn't change; it's frozen. Closing the program and re-opening, or closing everything and rebooting, doesn't fix the problem. The x1 programmers have clearly screwed something up in this "upgrade." Please fix!

I'm having a very confusing problem related to this. When I first start X1 (version 8.3.2.1, build 5003eb, 64 bit), Outlook preview works for all my emails. But at some point it stops working. I can't even see my "Store Outlook..." setting because when I click on Manage Data Sources, then Edit Outlook Email (the pencil icon next to it), X1 crashes. But if I go to Windows Task Manager, and click End Process on X1OutlookService32.exe *32, the window for Outlook Email Options will appear. I see that I didn't have the "Store Outlook..." box checked. I checked the box, got the warning that it will only affect new items that are indexed, and saved. However, now I can see the preview again, for all emails.

I'm having the same problem (Outlook preview not available) except I have the "Store Outlook Email Body in the Index" unchecked. I also show "error" in every data source category except files. I am using 8.3.2.1 on a Surface Pro Win 8.1 machine. I have an .ost and several .pst files. The .ost file is connected to an exchange server. And I just did a uninstall/reinstall because X1 was not syncing the .ost file.

I experienced the same problem after installing 8.3.2.1 update. "Outlook preview not available."
Did an uninstall of X1, did not save settings. Removed the X1 index folder, too.
Reinstalled X1. So far, so good. It is building the fresh index. A partial result shows that previews do appear.
It is painful to go through and reset all the indexing, folder, and file preferences but I hope to regain the lost installation time in saved search time.

I did have a case open with 8.3.2 version, previews not appearing at all, not even a "Not available" message. Perhaps all will now be good.

My initial install was 8.3.2.1 and I still have the problems with some, but not all, of my PSTs. 'Store Outlook Email body in the index' is not selected. Support had me perform a repair of Office. Nope, didn't help. The only way I have found to fix it is to remove the PST from the data source, add it again, and reindex, but I don't have hours and hours to wait around whenever it happens.

I don't even care about the preview, but it prevents PSAs from taking place, like move & copy, etc.

Anyone else have this issue or found a better workaround?

I am pretty sure I got it working, though not sure what will happen if/when I update or what else it may play into.

Here's what I did. I found this error in the windows event logs:

Detection of product '{9AC08E99-230B-47E8-9721-4577B7F124EA}', feature 'OutlookMAPI2Intl_1033', component '{BC5551FA-8420-403D-99D7-1EAC191169EA}' failed. The resource 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\VFS\ProgramFilesCommonX86\SYSTEM\MSMAPI\1033\MSMAPI32.DLL' does not exist.

I went to that location and nothing was there. However, MSMAPI32.DLL *was* located at 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\VFS\ProgramFilesCommonX64\SYSTEM\MSMAPI\1033\MSMAPI32.DLL'

--> can you see the difference? Yeah x64 vice x86....

So, I just copied the subdirectories and file from the x64 directory to the x86 one and it appears to work correctly. Seems very strange to me that nobody else is experiencing this problem.

Hello,

In the "saved searches" folder, can you find one of the files that correspond to the broken searches,
they are xml text files with extension .x1s, and check what are the values for the Width properties for
the columns. I guess those values have gotten out of hand ...

Just found a neat trick for this and not seen it elsewhere, also works in Excel!
Seems to work well for me anyway.
Move the cursor to the right hand edge of the column header to get the <-> shape, then double click to autosize to contents

It depends on where you have told X1 to put your index.

Open X1:
  • Options
  • Index
  • Look at Store index files in the following location
  • Copy the path
  • Paste into Windows Explorer
  • Look for Saved Searches folder
