X1 keeps losing my laptops \\server indexes.

My X1 reindexes the local C: drive and networked S: drive every night at midnight. The S drive is a share on \\server01.

As long as I leave my laptop at work the S: index shows about 200,000 networked files.

But, I take it home most evenings and continue working from the couch.

When midnight comes around, the reindexing DELETES all 200,000 files because the S drive is not available.

As a workaround, I have disabled the file indexing schedule by setting it to "Never". I then manually launch the reindexing ONCE A WEEK during the day, but it has 3 major downsides.

1 ONCE A WEEK, X1 response time goes into the toilet for about 4 hours.
2 Consequently, I sometime skip indexing for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, which makes reindexing take 5 to 6 hours.
3 When my impatent boss needs me to find something I hate to tell him "wait 4 hours while a reindex".
4 real-time file indexing is always disabled under this approach.
5 Sometimes I can't afford to wait 4 hours, so I do the following to quickly reindex c:\myTargert
Enable midnight schedule
Turn on real time indexing
Rename the c:\mytarget to c:\mytargetX the rename it back
Wait 1 minute while real time indexing finishes with c:\mytarget
Disable the midnight schedule
6 Unfortunately, I sometimes get interrupted and forget to disable the midnight schedule. Midnight rolls around and all 200,000 S drive files are deleted again. When that happens it takes TWO DAYS to reindex the S: drive. !!!!!!!

I have complained to X1 about this twice in the last 4 years, but it still occurs with the most recent version of X1.

I really, really, really wish they would fix it. It seems simple to me -- they should just ignore the index entries for drives that are not connected. If a person really wants the drive's index to be removed, they just remove the check box from the selected drives dialog box.

The same thing applies to external drives. I just talked a friend into buying X1. He wanted to index 5 large external USB drives, so he attached them as E: F: G: H: and I: then spent 3 days indexing them.

He was disgusted when I told him he had to either keep all 5 perpetually attached OR turn off scheduled indexing.

X1 is such a great project, but stuff like this can be a major annoyance.
